"Don't Be Sad Santa" | |
In a moment of silence amidst the winter snow, the great elf himself makes an unscheduled stop in his World-Wide trek. At the sight of Ground Zero of the World Trade Center ruins, Santa sheds a tear in the virgin snow to solemnly honor the fallen, the loved ones, and the heroes of September 11, 2001. Painted in the winter of 2001, this was the result of the pure sorrow I felt about the most horrible and vile tragedy in American history. I was compelled to make this piece to show the great hurt that was caused by this atrocity and to show how it did hurt us but also made us stronger. Now we have lost that unity and we let petty differences drive us apart. United we stand, divided we will fall. |
